Infrastructure & Connectivity

How we support Yanomami-led priorities

Limited access to reliable energy, mobility, and communication can make everyday community priorities harder to sustain; from maintaining equipment and coordinating travel to staying connected across long distances. The Yanomami Foundation raises funds and works with Yanomami leaders and trusted partners to support locally identified infrastructure priorities, such as schools, community facilities, and communication networks.

These initiatives are not imposed from outside. They are developed in response to priorities identified by Yanomami assemblies and leaders, so support reflects local needs, values, and long-term goals.

Through partnerships with technical experts, educators, and community partners, we support solutions that are durable, practical to maintain, and culturally appropriate. Funding comes through a combination of grants, private donations, and fundraising efforts. When communities have stronger connectivity and reliable power, they can coordinate more effectively, maintain essential systems, and improve preparedness and timely access to services when needed—strengthening long-term community wellbeing.

Promoting Clean Energy

Clean, reliable energy can reduce reliance on diesel fuel and difficult supply chains while supporting community-identified priorities. We raise funds to support Yanomami-led initiatives that expand access to solar power and battery storage in ways that are practical to maintain locally and mindful of environmental impacts.

Communication as Empowerment

Reliable communication supports coordination, learning, and connection across long distances. Improved connectivity can help Yanomami leaders communicate between communities, share timely information, and maintain contact with trusted partners outside the territory when communities choose to do so. Satellite connectivity can also support intercultural education, expanding access to educational resources while reinforcing learning grounded in elders, language, and local knowledge.

Current support priorities may include satellite connectivity for community learning and coordination, solar panels with off-grid battery storage, and mobility-related needs identified by communities. Each initiative is guided by Yanomami leadership and carried out through locally appropriate partnerships.

The Yanomami Foundation approaches this work as a support organization—mobilizing resources and standing alongside Yanomami-led decision-making—so communities can maintain essential systems more reliably and strengthen long-term resilience and self-determination. Connectivity can also support community preparedness and coordination in the face of external pressures.
